Winter Basketball
ASA Basketball offers three different seasons - Winter, Spring & Fall. The Winter season is the primary season and includes games and practice with registration. All three seasons are open to players of all skill levels.
Winter season games are played on Saturdays with one 1-hour, half-court practice per team on a weeknight.
Winter 2024/2025
New this Winter Season:
ASA Basketball attempts to place teams with the most competitive balance. Please read the options below and select which skill level your team will be this winter season to the best of your knowledge.
*Please note: The League will make the ultimate decision where teams are placed, but would like Head Coach feedback.
Beginner - New teams with players who are in the early stages of their development.
Intermediate - Teams that have been together for a couple seasons or more and have average to above average skilled players.
Advanced - Teams with skilled players who have multiple seasons of experience.
Pre-Season Games:
In a way to improve competitive balance in the 2nd grade through High School leagues, the first two games of the season will be considered "Pre-Season'' games and will not count in the overall standings. These two games will serve the purpose of allowing the League Directors the chance to watch all of the teams play and then place them into divisions for a six game regular season. The observation and data collected from these two games will allow them to make educated judgments about division placement for league play. Once teams are placed in a division, they will play a six game regular season within their established division that will seed them for the postseason tournament. Teams may still be moved for post-season tournament play as determined by the basketball board.

Additional Information
Player/Team Registration Options
- Individual registration – This option is open to every player that wants to play basketball with ASA. If you are new to the league or want a change from a previous team, register as an individual in “draft” status and ASA will place you on a team that has an opening or create a team where you will be added.
- Pre-formed Team – This option is for a returning team that would like to keep its team intact from a prior season. The Head Coach will register themselves first and will be sent a team invitation code. They will distribute that code to their players and they will be assigned to that coach’s roster once they register and pay individually. Teams with less than nine players on their roster could have players added to their roster. Max roster size is 10.
- Registered Team – This option is when a coach pays the predetermined team fee up front when registering the team. Once the coach has completed a criminal background check, they will be sent a team code that should be distributed to the players. The players must register with ASA at no fee, and be added to the team roster. The minimum number of players on a Registered team roster is seven and that locks their roster to where no additional players will be added. Teams with less than seven will have players added. Max roster size is 10. The Board reserves the right to move these teams up a league for competitive reasons.* Registered teams may only add players to a roster up to Week 2 of the season, regardless of roster size, or injury.
Pre-Draft Workouts:
New and redrafting players may be asked to participate in a pre-draft workout. The purpose of pre-draft workouts is to change the way "draft" teams are formed. Teams will no longer be formed by school/location in order to form more competitively balanced teams in each grade (2nd-Middle School).
Draft Players will attend a skills workout for an hour on a weeknight, similar to a practice. (Dates posted below)
- Players will be evaluated and rated.
- Teams will be formed with a balance of ability on the roster.
- All players will get assigned to a roster by the League Director.
Pre-Draft Workout Dates/Times:
*Dates/Times will be posted when available
Winter Games are played on Saturdays.
