Spring Volleyball

The objective of the ASA Volleyball League is to promote the welfare of children and youth through physical fitness in an environment which focuses on building good sportsmanship, increasing volleyball skills and knowledge, and advancing team and personal growth.

The ASA Volleyball League is committed to partnering with our community schools, and parents to provide a quality volleyball program for all participants. This program will provide a positive and safe volleyball experience while promoting and instilling the ideals of honesty, respect, good sportsmanship, commitment, and loyalty at all levels of participation.

ASA volleyball is proud to offer various league levels for boys and for girls. Players may start as early as 1st grade and can continue playing through 12th grade! We welcome all skill levels from beginner recreational to the advanced competitive player.

All ASA volleyball teams are coached by volunteers. We are always appreciative of the time, effort, and energy given by those who are willing to invest time in the youth of Allen and our surrounding communities. Want to make a positive impact in the life of a youth? Join our team of exceptional volunteer coaches! You make a difference in today's youth!

There are no refunds for cancelled games due to weather or other issues beyond the control of the league.

Team Formation

SPRING & FALL SEASONS

Teams are formed by the following methods:

  • Pre-formed Teams
  • A random DRAFT based on school or other criteria for placement (Mini Volleyball & Recreational leagues)
  • Attend a tryout/player evaluations to be selected to a team (Competitive league only)

All divisions require a 4 team minimum.  If a minimum of 4 teams is not reached by the end of registration, the ASA Volleyball Board reserves the right to merge some grades into one Division if enrollment numbers justify such action.

PRE-FORMED TEAMS

Coaches may "bring their own team" which is considered a pre-formed team.

All teams are required to have a head coach and an assistant coach or team parent registered and certified through ASA.

No more than 3 coaches allowed per team.

Roster minimum of 9 players/max 12 players on pre-formed 6x6 teams. If a pre-formed team comes in with under 9 players, ASA has the right to add draft players to that roster. Mini Volley team rosters must have a minimum of 5 players and a maximum of 8 players. If a pre-formed team comes in with under 5 players, ASA has the right to add draft players to that roster.

NEW: If a coach pays the Team Fee, the roster will be set, and no additional players will be added to the roster.

All coaches and players must register individually

DRAFT - INDIVIDUAL REGISTRATION

New players or returning players who are NOT part of a coach’s pre-formed team will be placed in the draft pool and either moved to pre-formed teams with openings on their rosters or moved onto a roster of a newly created team.

Any requests regarding specific player placement can be listed in the "notes" section of the online registration.

When possible, formation of teams from the draft will be based on geographical "school" area. However, we do not guarantee players will be placed on teams with other players from their schools/neighborhoods. Players are placed on teams after registration has closed.

MISC TEAM FORMATION RULES

Boys who have played in leagues other than ASA and/or play at a select or club level may be required to play at a higher division level than grade level. ASA Board review is required to determine the best division for the competitive play.

Competitive Evaluation Process:
Any 4th-6th grade player wanting to register to play within a competitive league that is not part of a coaches pre-formed team roster will have to participate in Competitive League Evaluations.

Players on pre-formed competitive team rosters do NOT need to attend evaluations.

Competitive player openings are limited. Not all players will pass the evaluation and not all players who pass will be placed on a team roster.

Those planning on attending will need to:

  • Bring only water to drink.
  • Players must also wear athletic clothing/shoes and kneepads.

Evaluations for all divisions are scheduled for the following day and time:

Saturday, February 24: Time 11:am-1:30pm
Evaluation Location: The Sports Cabana at Craig Ranch

Wednesday, February 28: 6:00-8:30pm
Evaluations Location: Stephen G. Terrell Recreation Center Fieldhouse

*The first hour of the Evaluation will be a Warm Up/Skills Clinic, the evaluation process will start immediately after.

Players in 4th, 5th and 6th grade who are registering for the Recreational Divisions do not need prior play experience, nor do they need to attend these competitive tryouts.

The Board Needs You!   The Volunteer Board is made up of volunteers, just like you. We have Head Coaches, Assistant Coaches and Parents that make up the Board and we're looking for a few more interested volunteers to help out. Volunteer Board Members participate in monthly board meetings, communicate often through email and take part in occasional topic specific meetings, all with the intent of continuing to grow the program.

If you are interested in finding out more about the Volunteer Board or feel that you can help make a difference in the program, please don't hesitate to reach out to one of the existing Board members to discuss further. Changes and growth happen because of the efforts by our many volunteers.  Please help join us in our continual effort to make ASA The Place Where Kids Come To Play.
